Feedback –

This past week we received lots of feedback from our mentors, a lot of which caused us to think about our story and shot design. Due to schedule conflicts, we were unable to reshoot this week but we plan to do it this upcoming Friday.

I’ve spent a lot of my time working on shot 06, the full CG shot as the popcorn is created in the microwave. Due to time restraints and slow progress, the team has decided to ditch the procedural popcorn and instead use pre-existing assets. Here are the popcorn assets I gathered and set up in Karma.

My goal this week was to re-do our popcorn system and get actual Vis and layout done in Houdini for this shot. Here is the progress as is.

I am still able to use a lot of the same setup for my procedural popcorn setup in this one, and the same attributes and animation are driving it. I’ve also begun setting up RBD and pyro effects.

Rendering out the full sequence has been a little tough, since Ive been working remotely and savannah has been having weather issues.

Quick breakdown of pyro setup

I put together a quick pyro setup to help with the vis. Not too much going on but I plan to develop it further throughout this next week.

Along with the Pyro setup, I’ve also got the base setup of the pickles exploding into dust. Theres a lot more I plan to do here, including advecting the particles based off of a volume sim, adding more particles, and having custom colors and shapes.
